This year’s CineVegas tribute to Jon Voight included the film "Lookin To Get Out" and was probably the best film (imho) screened at CineVegas- Of course I am biased as I love all films that were shot in Las Vegas, especially before 1990. The film was made in 1982 but seemed to transcend time, a story of two addicted gamblers in debt, running from the henchmen -hop a plane to Vegas to try to recoup their loses is one that if it had been released in 1982 would have been remade into a current version today. The audience laughed at the jokes, were moved by the dramatic moments; the entire experience was just amazing. In 1981, Jon Voight signed on to star in the comedy which he’d co-written.
Co-starring would be Burt Young of Rocky fame, and the stunning Ann-Margret, with a brief appearance by Angelina Jolie who plays Voights daughter.
Directing would be Hal Ashby, a maverick who’d made such hit flicks as Harold and Maude (1971), Shampoo (1975) and Being There (1979), and who would die of cancer 1988, never to see the final cut. The DVD will be released in August and I would highly recommend seeing it.
